F.A.Q.

1. Why should my company outsource its IT department?

Here are eight reasons for outsourcing all or part of your IT department:

  1. A wider range of services for less. A permanent "Network Administrator" costs on average between £22k - £35k P/A (excluding benefits). VITS can supply a wider range of services and skill-sets and costs less because we have implemented processes and systems focused on offering support services. Therefore we have more resources available so your problems are resolved more quickly.
  2. Help when you need it, where you need it. Often companies employ a Network Administrator because they prefer someone on-site for 5 days a week or less, your needs may only warrant someone on-site for a couple of days a week. VITS can supply a permanent engineer with all the resources of VITS available to back them up.
  3. Cover at no extra cost. A permanent member of staff can become ill and is entitled to holidays. This will mean finding extra cover during these times. However, at VITS this is not an issue as we have a team available at all times so we can provide cover at no extra cost.
  4. Access to a wide range of knowledge. One IT member of staff will have a limited skill-set. Supporting a business requires an in-depth knowledge of various technologies, amongst others, email, networking, firewalls, Operating Systems and back office systems. VITS have developed a sophisticated test which all engineers need to pass to be considered as a VITS engineer so you can be confident that that you receive the correct skill-set that you need for your business.
  5. You can outsource just part of your network. This is often an ideal solution for larger companies as it releases the pressure on the internal IT staff and provides a reliable and cost effective source of IT support, with an SLA in place for added peace of mind.
  6. Guaranteed Service Level Agreement (SLA). It is not possible to create an SLA with your permanent Network Administrator. However this is the corner stone of an outsourced support contract, so we provide you with detailed reports to show how well we meet these requirements.
  7. Protecting your network. If your Network Administrator doesn't make a positive contribution to your business, he/she may be difficult to remove and, if he/she has passwords and other administrative access, it can become a problem if there is any bad-will when they leave.
  8. Best solution for the business. When your Network Administrator is involved in the future IT planning of the business, their opinion is often biased towards their own skill-set, which may not necessarily be the best solution for the business.

3. What is the difference between Flat Fee and Pay As You Go?

Flat Fee Support contract (includes remote and on-site support with a fixed SLA)

Pay as you go Ad Hoc Support (as and when work is required with services charged at a standard hourly rate)

Flat Fee

Having a support contract provides the following:

  • Priority response compared to non-service contract customers.
  • You receive a Cisco PIX Firewall with built in remote access solution at a discount rate.
  • All the monitoring software is provided at no extra charge.
  • Automatic installation of Standard software updates.
  • Automatic Microsoft Service packs implementation.
  • Virus scanners are kept up to date and regularly monitored.
  • Three months notice of contract termination by either party.
  • Telephone, remote access and support on-site.

Pay As You Go

  • If you don't require any support, you don't pay. If you feel you only require 5 hours a month that is what you pay for.
  • The pay as you go model comes with a very flexible SLA (Service Level Agreement), because you are simply charged for the work you require.
